Congratulations Megan Branks from Kura Kai Katikati!
Megan is one of the top 10 Star Volunteer winners! We popped in to see Megan in Katikati today and give her a voucher and tote bag from Tauranga Crossing.
Here’s why Marie from Kura Kai NZ nominated Megan “Megan is our one of our key Kura Kai Volunteer Coordinators in Katikati. Megan was the reason why Katikati College decided to partner with Kura Kai as Megan organised sponsorship of a freezer, and well the rest is history.
Megan spends countless hours coordinating meals to not only fill the Colleges Kura Kai freezers, but also feeding many vulnerable family in the community.
She just recency heard that Meals on Wheels was no longer running, and some of the elderly in the community were been forgotten about. So Megan rather than ignore, made a plan to cook specially made meals for the elderly (no choking hazards) and get warm hearty home cooked meals out to them.
Through her voluntary community work with Kura Kai, Megan has formed relationships with other key local Katikati organisations like the Runanga and Food Bank. Rather than work in isolation, she understands the need to work together. So Kura Kai helps with meals, then the Runanga helps with things like budgeting and other support that family may need. Any kai the food bank is unable to use, heads into Kura Kai meals. Its a perfect partnership and Megan is key in driving this.”
Congratulations Megan!
